The Monroe County Court has jurisdiction for civil actions up to $15,000.00. Summons is issued by certified mail, unless personal service is requested. Once judgment is received, there is a 30 day appeal time. Upon expiration of the appeal time, the creditor may garnishment the debtor's wages or bank account, if such information is known, or file for a certificate of judgment, which places a lien upon any real estate owned by the debtor in this county. If none of that information is available, the creditor may file for a judgment debtor examine to attempt to obtain that information.
There is a deposit fee of $ 125.00 plus a deposit of $10.00 for each additional defendant to be paid at the time of filing.
