In 1985, the Monroe County Park District leased 11.25 acres from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources Division of Wildlife. The property was known as Old Lock # 15 on the Ohio River. Two grant sources, (Land & Water Conservation Fund and Watercraft Safety Fund) were combined with local Park district dollars in order to develop the property. The development consisted of a two- lane boat ramp, fishing benches, rest rooms and a picnic shelter. The property has plenty of paved parking for visitors that choose to use the park’s picnic shelter, fishing and boating areas. The view from the picnic/shelter house commands a remarkable grasp of the age old activities that transpire on the riverfront. Stern wheelers, tugboats and recreational boaters can be observed twenty-four hours a day from our shaded shelter area. Both our senior citizens and handicapped visitors will discover immediately that fishing has never been easier. Simply drive up to the old guide wall, step out and drop a line in the Ohio River.
