MONROE COUNTY COURT OF COMMON PLEAS, PROBATE DIVISION
Walter R. Starr is Judge of the Court of Common Pleas, Probate and Juvenile Division and has served in the position since 1991.
The primary duties of the Court of Common Pleas, Probate Division, are the administration of estates, creation and supervision of guardianships, regulation of trusts, adoptions, marriage licenses, name changes, legitimations and mental illnesses.
The Judge of the Probate Division also serves as the Clerk of Courts for Probate Division. The Chief Deputy Clerk for Probate Court is Kathie D. Darrah. She has 25 years of experience as Deputy Clerk. Her responsibilities include screening documents upon filing, docketing probate matters for hearing, processing documents of administration, issuing notices and citation, maintaining the Court's fiscal ledgers and compiling quarterly and annual reports of the Probate Court to the Supreme Court of Ohio.
Monroe County Court of Common Pleas, Juvenile Division
The Monroe County Juvenile Court is mandated by law to deal with children who are deliquent, unruly neglected, dependent or abused. The Court also has the authority to take appropriate action deemed to be in the best interest of children, while considering what is necessary for the protection of the community.
The Judge of the Juvenile Division also serves as the Clerk of Courts for the Juvenile Division. The Chief Deputy Clerk for the Juvenile Division is Deirdre Ollom. She has 19 years experience as Deputy Clerk and also serves as the Department of Youth Services Program Coordinator and a probation officer for the Juvenile Court.
The Juvenile Probation Officer is Deborah DeVitis. She has served in that capacity since 2007.
